Summer Reading Program
On June 15, 2009, sign up begins for the Summer Reading Program and its events! This years Reading Program theme is "Be Creative At Your Library", and we have gone wild with creativity! Many options will be set before you when you come to sign up this year. In addition to our traditional Reading Program and Wednesday Morning Fun, we also have evening events and some Thursday Morning Crafts.
Yes- the Library will come to your Daycare!
As a courtesy to all the daycares in the Poland area, one of our volunteers, Suzie Stover, will come to your daycare and do a Storytime! This Storytime includes the reading of several stories appropriate for the preschool age and a craft also appropriate for the preschool age. If you are interested in having Suzie come to your daycare, either for a single visit, or on a regular basis, please call us at 998-4390. This service is only offered from September to June, and is not available during July and August.
Storytime Info
Storytime has officially stopped for the summer and will start again in the fall. Thanks for a great year!
Like Art?
Do you like art? Do you like a variety of art? Maybe you like art, but, like many of us, can't afford to continually buy new pieces? If that's so, then the library has the answer! Thanks to the generous donations of many people, the library has several pieces of art available for two week loan. Yes, they go out just like books!

Hobby Night
If you have a favorite pastime or hobby, or if you have a collection of items that you would be willing to display, then call the Library about Hobby Night. On July 30, at 6:30 PM, our doors will open to an eclectic assortment of special collections hobbies. Set "buffet style" around the downstairs of the library will be different collections (i.e. a rock collection, famous actor/actress collection, stamp collection) or hobbies. We also welcome hobbies that require physical demonstration (i.e. knitting, carving, spinning).
Chewonki presents: Creative Animal Adaptations
On July 20, at 6:30 PM, Chewonki will present its Creative Animal Adaptations program. In line with this years Summer Reading Program: Be Creative At Your Library, Chewonki will show us how animals are creative, too. During this program we will learn how animals are creative in how they adapt to their environments and to dangers. Real live animals will be present to physically show off their creativity, and at the end of the program will be a small craft for the children to complete.
Crafts with Kellie Whitten
On July 13, at 6:30 PM, join us for a night of creativity with Kellie Whitten, art teacher at Mechanic Falls Elm Street School. Kelly is coming to show us how to make chalk book marks. Sign up begins June 15, 2009. Tickets are free, but spots are limited. We hope to hear from you soon!
