Welcome to the Ricker Memorial Library and Community House, Poland, Maine

Ricker Memorial Library, Poland, Maine -

Hmmm...Pay More for Heat, or Freeze?

Don't do either! Instead come to the library, the official Warming Center for Poland. In addition to staying warm, you can do a variety of activities: read, put together a puzzle, work on the computer, or visit with your friends. Also, on certain days we will offer other activites for you as well. Weekly activities include the Monday Morning and Wednesday Morning quilting groups at 10:00 and the Needlers on Tuesdays at 6:30 PM and Thursdays at 2:00 PM.

Wednesday Book Discussion

The Wednesday Book Discussion group is back, but with a new topic! For a period of time the group will be reading biographies and discussing them. The group meets every third Wednesday of the month, at 7:00 PM. The first biography discussion will be on January 21, 2009. The book chosen for the month of January is "Woman in the Mist" by Farley Mowat. Please call the library at 998-4390, or visit us, to sign up and get on the list for a copy of "Woman in the Mist".

Amnesty Month!

December is here and with it comes a chance for you to help the community. For the entire month of December we are offering an alternative to paying those pesky overdue fines: instead of paying the fine bring in canned or boxed foods that we will then give to those in the community who need them. Please be generous though and not bring dented cans or items that are past their experation date- these items will NOT be accepted. We also cannot accept fresh foods (fresh fruits or vegetables, or frozen items). For more information please call us at 998-4390

The Holidays are Coming!

The holiday season is coming and it is coming quickly! This year do something a little different and buy a gift for yourself, the community, and the library! Maybe you have a book that you love that we don't have, or maybe there is a book you would like to see us own? You can fix this problem by giving the library and the community a gift. If you donate the money for the book and give us the title and author, we will purchase the book and put your name on the book plate.

Outreach Services

We at the library understand that not all who want to come are able to come, so we have started an Outreach Service. The Outreach Service provides Poland residents who are not able to come to the library to still enjoy our services. Through the Outreach Service you will be able to rent from books in all forms and from all collections (except books from our Refrence Section), and you will be able to rent music and movies.

Storytime Info

Calling all little ones and their parents! Join our Storytime Lady, Carolyn, Tuesday morning for an hour of riveting stories, can't - put - down crafts, music and even a toy time! PUZZLES!!!

The staff is great at checking out books, but not so great at putting together puzzles! Please come over and help them by working on the puzzle they have currently set up; or just put a few pieces together during your next visit. The puzzle is set up in the sitting area.
